Life in Summerville’s Local Nonprofit Spotlight ~ Dorchester County Community Outreach

Often I spotlight local businesses, but I believe that many local nonprofits are equally worthy of recognition. Many times, these organizations go unnoticed in their efforts to better our community, but I hope that will change soon!

During this month’s spotlight, I am highlighting Dorchester County Community Outreach (DCCO). Located in the heart of Summerville, DCCO provides two homes for the homeless,  Home of Hope and Hope’s House of Summerville. Their mission is to provide a safe environment, support services, and an avenue to independence for those in a housing crisis. Home of Hope and Hope’s House of Summerville also provides residents with help that will enable them to get back on their feet. Throughout all of their efforts they want to glorify God first and foremost. Dorchester County Community Outreach does not provide handouts, but rather provides a hand up, which gives those in need the hope they need to move forward.

DCCO works tirelessly to provide for its residents by fundraising and being responsible stewards of donations. As a result, in 2021, they were able to give 136 people a roof over their heads and a bed to sleep in without spending any money on housing supplies. That is what the Summerville community is all about!

Both Home of Hope and Hope’s House of Summerville are always in need of volunteers and donations. For a list of immediate ways in which you can help and take part in helping your community, please go to https://dcco4homeless.org.

Thank you Dorchester County Community Outreach for all you do to help our community!
