Life in Summerville’s First Local Nonprofit Spotlight ~ Dorchester Paws

If you are new to Life in Summerville, welcome, and if you have been on my blog before, welcome back! A new feature that I am very excited about is my monthly Local Nonprofit Spotlight. Every month I share a Local Business Spotlight, but being that we have so many wonderful nonprofit organizations in our community, I wanted to expand on the idea!

Did you know that Summerville is home to a wonderful nonprofit organization called Dorchester Paws?. Recently, I had the privilege and honor to visit the facility, along with Dan and Amy Schneider from Certainty Home Mortgage. Dorchester Paws is the only open-admission, no-kill shelter in Dorchester County. They serve animals from across the area, including those who have been injured as a result of accidents or are victims of cruelty. Dorchester Paws has a special fund entitled Michael’s Healing Heart, which is used to treat the medical issues that frequently come up at the shelter.

Dorchester Paws is unfortunately located in an area that is extremely flood prone and during severe weather conditions, the facility floods. Animals have to be moved to temporary areas on the campus or completely evacuated from the facility. They are currently fundraising to begin building a new facility on property they have set aside. In order for them to be able to do this, they need your help. To find out more about this amazing organization and the ways in which you can help, please go to www.dorchesterpaws.org.
