Top 5 Parks in Summerville

Summerville is known as Flowertown in the Pines, but it’s not just all about flowers and pine trees. We have some really nice parks and playgrounds in our town. Below you will find a list of some of the favorites!

  • Gahagan Park & Playground ~ Gahagan Park sits on 37 acres located at 184 West Boundary Street. The park has a football field, baseball fields, track, picnic areas, playground, and restroom facilities. On any given Saturday you will see games of pick-up football, or organized sports. Gahagan is also popular with walkers and runners who love to use the concrete track. The playground is the largest in Summerville with a wooden structure that is great for climbing.
  • Saul Alexander Park & Playground (aka Laurel Park) ~ At 650 South Laurel Street, you will find a large park with what my kids call a Merry Go Round, swings, climbing structures, bouncy ride-ons and more! There are also picnic tables and restrooms. Saul Alexander is very popular with moms groups because of the great sightlines. If you are a mom, you will understand that!
  • Azalea Park ~ 105 South 5th. The crown jewel of Summerville! Azalea Park comes to life in the spring when the azaleas bloom and help give credence to the name Flowertown. Though there is no playground, the grounds at Azalea Park are beautiful and there is plenty to look at. The park actually starts on one side of Main Street and continues on the other behind the Cuthbert Center. Azalea Park is frequently used for weddings and family pictures because of the gazebo, ponds, as well as the sculptures located on the side behind the center. It is also the main site for the Annual Flowertown Festival’s arts and crafts vendors. If you are a frequent visitor to the park, you may have noticed kids of all ages hunting for something. Hidden painted rock gems are often found in this park!
  • Sawmill Branch Trail ~ OK, so not technically a park, but the trail is well used by those who live in town. The 6.5 mile paved trail runs from just outside the center of downtown Summerville, along Berlin G. Myers, and then behind the Sawmill Center and various subdivisions.
  • Rosebrock Park ~ This is the newest park that is located at the intersection of Bacons Bridge Road and 61. Rosebrock offers about 2 miles of hiking and biking trails and sits on 76 acres near the Ashley River. There are plans to add a possible boat/kayak launch and fishing pier.
