Family Friendly Events All Through December

The Town of Summerville comes alive with a myriad of wonderful family fun events all through December. There is something for everyone to enjoy during this special holiday season. Here is a look at some of the favorites that you and your family can experience!

December 1-31, 2016

Magnolia Plantation and Gardens Children’s Village

OPEN DAILY 8:30am-4:30pm … FREE w/Garden Admission

Take a stroll along Candy Cane Lane in our Children’s Holiday Village as you visit Santa’s Workshop, Candy Factory, Gingerbread House, Barber Shop, Post Office, Chapel, General Store, Elf Bunk House, and “Elfementary” School.

Weekends at the plantation bring more special events!

December 10: Choraliers Music Club performance, Summerville Dance Academy performance, holiday carolers, holiday crafts and activities.

December 11: Charleston Children’s Chorus, crafts and activities.

December 17: Pony rides from Lowcountry Party Animals, holiday carolers, Lowcountry Muscle Car Club, holiday crafts and activities.

December 18: Palmetto Bronze handbell ensemble performance, holiday crafts and activities.

Christmas on the Square: Hutchinson Square

In the tradition of Scarecrows on the Square, the Junior Service League now offers a display called Christmas on the Square. Stop by any time between December 3 to 18 to check out all of the trees and vote for your favorite. Christmas trees are created by civic groups, schools, businesses and even individuals.

Summerville Annual Christmas Tree Lighting: 5-7:30pm

Join the Town of Summerville and the Summerville Garden Club for the Annual Christmas Tree Lighting in Hutchinson Square on Tuesday, December 6, 2016, 5:00 PM – 7:30 PM. We will have food vendors with items available for purchase, a few free holiday-themed activities for kids as well as free cookies from Summerville DREAM. The musical entertainment will kick-off at 6:00 PM in front of Town Hall. The Tree Lighting is scheduled for approximately 7:00 PM. Little Main St. and W. Richardson Ave. between Main St. and Short Central will be closed to traffic for the safety of event goers. This is a rain or shine event.

Carnes Crossroads Holiday Market: 1-6pm

One of Summerville’s premier home communities is hosting its 2nd annual Holiday Market at the Green Barn. The market will feature a variety of vendors. Holiday lights will adorn the Green Barn and the adjacent Village Green, the sounds of holiday music will fill the air, and Santa will even make an appearance! Plenty of holiday goodies and other treats are in store as the Carnes Crossroads community gets ready to celebrate the season. The event is free of charge and open to the public. Plenty of free parking will be available.

Middleton Place: Family Yuletide in the Stableyards: 5:30-8pm

Grape vines, holly berries, evergreen clippings and other natural materials will be provided for wreath making. Children and adults may create Popcorn/cranberry garland, wooden ornaments, pine cone reindeer, ribbon Christmas trees and twiss up dolls. Volunteers will be on hand at each craft station to instruct and assist visitors on how to create a holiday masterpiece.

The blacksmith, potter, cooper and seamstress will be available to visitors interested in learning more about the roles their positions played at Middleton Place in the 18th century. Returning to the event is a live nativity scene that will include several animals from the Stableyards at 7 p.m.

Tickets: $15/Adults, $5/Children (4-13), ages 3 and under are free

December 15, 16, & 17, 2016

Middleton Place: Grand Illumination and Dinner: 6-8pm

Join trained actors in period costume as they take you back to the Christmas of 1782. This lively event celebrates the return of Arthur Middleton from Philadelphia, the end of the Revolutionary War in the South and the departure from Charleston of the British troops. Torchlit gardens, warm fires, dramatic scenes and presentations, and traditional holiday buffet will make Grand Illumination a memorable part of your holiday season. Advance online reservations required.

Tickets: $59/adults, $20/children (ages 6-13)
